First Frost

Indie Rock | Boston

First Frost, a Boston-based indie rock four-piece, debuted in April of 2015 under the name Foliage. Drawing on elements of shoegaze and experimental rock, the band peppers noise and oddity into songs with a pop sensibility.

New England Winter Freezes Foliage: Band Becomes First Frost

After two years together as a band, Foliage announces a band name change: First Frost, citing logistic concerns as the reason for the change.

"The name was an idea brought to us by a friend at around 4 in the morning. We had been searching for a band name for months and we all thought it was just perfect," recalls lead singer and guitarist Lauren.

Along with the name change, fans can anticipate an EP, whose title honors the band's former moniker as well as new songs just on the horizon.

Thanks for the boost, Inquirer and Mirror!

In a show of solidarity and good faith, Nantucket's newspaper, the Inquirer and Mirror, ran a press release about our being chosen for the semifinals in Radio 92.9's EarthFest battle of the bands.

Fingers crossed that we make it to the next round, the polls closed at noon on Friday, July 3.

(June 29, 2015) Boston-based Indie band Foliage, featuring Nantucket native Morgan Browne and former resident Lauren Koppelman, has been named a semifinalist in the competition to open the 22nd annual Radio 92.9 EarthFest concert July 18 on the Boston Common. Alex Preston, Atlas Genius, New Politics and Guster are scheduled to headline the event.

The semifinals are a popularity contest and the top five bands with the most votes will move on to the finals to compete in a “Battle of the Bands” to crown the opening act for EarthFest.
